Not much to report, it’s been as cold as -25 below zero, the sun barely makes it over the horizon, and it’s definitely winter.

I was inspired to write today but a friend of mine. To be more honest he’s an ex of mine but over the years we’ve become friends again. (more…)

America. WIN!

Initially I felt like I always do when election time comes along.

These feelings include:

1. I know who I’m voting for, debates aren’t going to change my mind, I’m going to have a beer and sleep while you watch them.
2. Just get it over with.
3. Mom’s voting Republican again = evil
4. The world will not end if “he” doesn’t win.
5. Are we there yet?

I mean, I cared, I wanted Obama to win.
I’m just my usual apathetic self.
But then…

Last Week:

Carmen dragged me out to write postcards to rural Misouri in support of Obama. It wasn’t terribly enjoyable, brought back memories of being forced to answer letters to Santa when I was in middle school and wasn’t fun.  

Monday:

Monday we went back and made phone calls to get people to come vote. Not necessarily for Obama, just vote. It was fun, I made a lot of calls and I think I would definitely do it again.

Tuesday:

8:00AM    Glad I voted early, things sound ca-razy at the polls.

12:00PM     Is it time yet?

12:01PM     How about now?

2:00PM      Two, it’s two! Things are supposed to be happening now! What’s going on, where are my results?

2:30PM      Twitter, tell me what’s going on. Refresh refresh refesh!

3:00PM     MSNBC is playing stuff and posting results - video is chopy and scares the hell out of me when it comes back on but I’m still listening.

3:45PM     Get carmen from work… she’s crazy and needs some mellow. Seriously.

4:00PM    Went to friend’s house SUPER early because carmen was crazy. Sat in car and listened to NPR and waited for friend to get home.

4:30PM     YAY! Food and Battleship with a 5 year old!

Time passes…..

Pizza, good. Beer, good.
Those sticker things they put on the ice in New York are really cool.
Too much red!

7:30PM      Sister texts to say that sharks can smell an insanely insignificant amount of blood from a mile away.

7:32PM      WTF sister, why are you watching ANIMAL PLANET instead of history being made before your eyes?

7:35PM      Apparently sharks are cooler. 

8:00PM(ish) We won? What just happened? WE WON!

• Partying ensues with friends. One calls home (in the lower 48) to assure her parents that it will all be Ok, makes us all tell them as a group that it will all be Ok, several times. 
• Concession speech. Excellent, graceful, well said. Sad Grandpa Face.
• TV Crap. Blah blah talking… Where’s OBAMA? We want Obama now!
• Obama Speech. LOVE.
• Oprah cries.
• Ok, enough green Oprah leaning on some dude on my TV.
• Rev. Jackson cries. Wishes it was him.

9:00PM     Rub victory in mom’s face. Get threatened with 2x more rent than I’m currently paying because her taxes are going to go up.

9:05PM      Use my excellent math skills (three years of the same algebra class) to multiply zero times two, inform mom that 0×2=0 so I’m good

10:00PM   Home now. Bedtime… very sleepy. good day.

Check out this Buffy review from the NY Times but only if you don’t care about Buffy comic spoilers or if you’ve already read Buffy number 12.

Sadly, comics don’t arrive to my town until Thursday or Friday so I have to wait at least a day while everyone basks in the crazy Buffy goodness. Usually I don’t read the spoilers for the Buffy comics because I like to be surprised but today, I don’t know how I’ll stand  waiting. I may need an intervention…

I know it’s not all about the gifts, but seriously I ended up with SO MUCH I’m going to be in an abundance of birthday goodness for many months to come.

Here’s a run down of what I got:

My new favorite hobby is making tiny felt animals out of fiber with pointy things and is surprisingly fun and soothing at the same time. Soothing, that is, when you’re not accidentally stabbing yourself with the very sharp needles needed to make the animals.

A felt breathing dragon kit – pictures are sure to follow after I make him.

Battlestar Galactica: Razor DVD – full of awesomeness!

Battlestar Galactica: The Official Companion Season Three – can I just say how excited I am about season 4 which starts in April?

Bite Me!: The Chosen Edition The Unofficial Guide to Buffy The Vampire Slayer - this book totally rocks! It is so up to date it even mentions the season 8 comics. I love it!

Amber Benson’s Chance DVD – funny, yet rough but still something every crazed AB fan should own. There’s a great, yet inappropriate line in there – anyone who sees the movie and knows me should know which one it is…

Amber Benson’s Lovers, Liars and Lunatics DVD – this one was much higher quality and really funny. Amber has a funny sense of humor and has lots of good one liners.

A Tim Cotterill bronze frog named Sky – I love him, the only frog I’ll ever have that won’t die.

And then the Amber craziness begins…

Included in my magical box of wonder was the following:

• Signed Triangle Tara Action Figure – from the troll episode!
• A blank (unpainted) Triangle Tara Action Figure, the box of which was also autographed.
• 2 cds of special songs Amber wrote and sang, one of which is signed
• 2 T-Shirts from Lovers, Liars and Lunatics
• 2 Signed photos from Amber – one of which I have never seen
• Shadowplay (comic) written by Amber Benson, also signed – her story is about vampires
• The Seven Whistlers book – signed by Amber Benson and Christopher Golden (the man who brought Tara back from the dead!)
• Initiation (Ghosts of Albion) book – signed by Amber Benson and Christopher Golden

All this, not to mention the comic shopping spree carmen took me on as a special treat for my birthday, made for a very geektastic day and one of the best birthdays ever!

Looks familliar right? The first time I saw it I just thought that it was the Jo Chen cover of Buffy Season 8, issue 1. But look closer…
