This website was started to catalog the life changes carmen and lea were inspired to make after growing tired of their current destructive condition and being inspired by the Worsted Witch website. carmen and lea want to help inspire others while also providing helpful green news, websites, and matters of green political importance. The laughing-tree website is divided into pages which contain completely separate blogs.

lea – lea’s personal blog-space where she’ll probably go on and on about her love for all things Buffy the Vampire Slayer, lesbian culture and politics, and whatever hobbies she has decided to test over time.  She’s a free thinker (pisces) who can’t stick with just one thing so she tries lots of different hobbies on a quest for the perfect fit. lea is participating in 43things, you will find her personal list in her blog-space.

carmen – carmen’s personal blog-space where she will most definitely be discussing all of her knitting projects – past, present, and future – her favorite knitting people, her favorite knitting stores, her favorite yarn… do you see a trend? the peoples!

carmen makes up one half of our crime fighting duo. When she’s not out killing bad guys with her environmentally-friendly recycled spatula saving the world, she spends a lot of time with yarn. Her obsession with knitting spans far greater than lea will ever understand and leads to many painstakingly boring – for lea that is – trips to the yarn store but at least lea gets lots of knitted presents as a result. carmen would rather knit than work, so if anyone knows how she can realistically do this, please email her your suggestions (although lea worries about the lack of money a sinful life of knitting would yield). Who knows, maybe one day when lea gets herself a big important job, carmen will be able to quit her own job and feed her addiction 24/7. carmen has always been somewhat environmentally-conscious: she became a vegetarian almost 6 years ago, she patiently taught lea how to recycle (they don’t have such a thing where she’s from) and she has spent a lot of time daydreaming about saving the world, hybrid cars, and healthy alternatives to harmful things.  Now she’s ready to stop daydreaming and start trying to make a difference – one day at a time.

lea (pronounced lee) makes up part two of our crime fighting duo. She is a recovering hunter who changed her ways after meeting carmen (actually, she just coincidentally became allergic to meat) and has been a full-time vegetarian for almost 6 years. lea is also recovering from her traumatic Republican upbringing (which disturbs carmen’s mother to no end) and is trying to think more clearly about things. She even registered Green party – yay lea! When lea isn’t being dragged to yarn stores, she spends a lot of her time working, studying for her bachelor’s degree, and spending endless hours surfing the web just because she can – she’s the one who found the beloved Worsted Witch site on one of her daily travels. lea is a hyper-consumer who is trying to change her ways – she now has a monthly allowance and she tries to remain within her budget.  However, she is very excited because “being green” means you get to buy green things – even buying reusable bags brought lea great joy. lea dreams of building a straw bale home for our duo one day and drools over the pictures in Natural Home Magazine, waiting for the day when she can have her own green home. lea tries very hard to remember to recycle and remains skeptical of the joy of such green things as recycled toilet paper, but she’s trying to keep an open mind.

the super poopers!

tenga is a ten-year-old Rhodesian Ridgeback. He spends most of his time sleeping under the table on his bed next to the heat register and reminding us that he needs to be fed. He will frequently stare you down until you cover him with a blanket to his satisfaction.  He enjoys going for walks and guarding our house from the invasion of evil neighbor dogs. When asked what he could do to make the world greener he farted, sighed, and went back under his table.  Does that mean he wants to cut down on greenhouse gasses? Your guess is as good as ours.

kasey is a two-year-old Weimaraner mix – the other half is presumed to be demon of some kind. She earns her living ridding the house of bugs (apologies to the Buddhists).  She also protects the house from space invaders (which often take the form of the unused satellite dish on the side of our house) and acts as an early warning system for squirrel attacks. When asked what she could do to make the world greener, she bit carmen and went back to watching the squirrels. She wants to take a bite out of pollution and global warming.
